Wrestling Lockup With Brandon 8/16/17: Smackdown Live Providence Recap

Smackdown Live was live this week in Providence, Rhode Island. We continue down the road to WWE SummerSlam this Sunday! What did Smackdown Live have in store for us this week for their go home show??

** Smackdown Live Card **

- Nattie Neidhart battled Becky Lynch.
- Rusev battled Chad Gable.
- WWE Smackdown Live World Tag Team Champions The New Day battled The Usos in a non title match.
- WWE World Heavyweight Champion Jinder Mahal battled John Cena in a non title match, with a surprise ending.

- WWE World Heavyweight Champion Jinder Mahal celebrates India's Independence Day.

- WWE United States Champion AJ Styles, Kevin Owens and Shane McMahon all meet face to face to talk about what happened last week.

** Smackdown Live **

- Jinder Mahal Promo: Mahal announces that today is India's Independence Day, brings Indian dancers out and has a woman sing the Indian national anthem. The dancers and The Singh Brothers all dance around in the ring to the celebration. Mahal says he will beat John Cena tonight, takes credit for all the international WWE Network subscribers who will watch him retain his title at WWE SummerSlam. Mahal says he'll prove that Shinsuke Nakamura's destiny is to lose to Mahal. Nakamura interrupts and heads to the ring. Nakamura says that today is also the day in Japan when they pray to everyone who died in war and they pray in peace. Nakamura guarantees Mahal loses to Nakamura at WWE SummerSlam. Mahal and Nakamura stare each other down to end the segment. 

- WWE send a get well soon to Ric Flair, who had emergency surgery on Monday.

- Nattie Neidhart vs. Becky Lynch: The match closes out with Becky getting a Bexploder and a close near fall. Nattie counters the Dis Arm Her submission and attempts the Sharpshooter submission, but Becky counters. Becky and Nattie trade more offense until Nattie finally traps Becky in the Sharpshooter submission and gets the tap out win.
Winner: Nattie Neidhart, by submission.

- After the match, Nattie attacks Becky and reapplies the Sharpshooter submission. Naomi hits the ring and makes the save, as Nattie escapes. Carmella and James Ellsworth appear next. Carmella says may the best woman win at WWE SummerSlam. Ellsworth then says whoever wins will really be the loser as Carmella holds up her Money In The Bank briefcase to end the segment.

- Backstage, Tamina asks Lana why she doesn't have a match tonight and Lana says it's because she's not ready. Lana says no one fears Tamina, she'll use her ravishing ways on Tamina and she'll become a destructive force. Lana says after that she and Tamina will be unstoppable together.

- Backstage, The Usos demand to face Woods and Kofi tonight since they'll be facing Big E and Woods at WWE SummerSlam.

- Rusev vs. Chad Gable: The match closes out with Rusev and Gable brawling on the floor. Rusev unloads on Gable, uses the steel steps as a weapon and then tosses Gable over the announcers table, getting him DQ'ed.
Winner: Chad Gable, by DQ.

- After the match, Rusev stomps on Gable and locks in The Accolade submission. Rusev then grabs a microphone to call out Randy Orton. Orton comes out of nowhere and hits the RKO, laying out Rusev to end the segment.

- AJ Styles Promo: Styles immediately calls out Shane McMahon. Shane says Styles doesn't need to apologize for last week because he knew the Pele Kick was an accident. Styles just wanted to make sure Shane wasn't going to use that as an excuse to screw over Styles at WWE SummerSlam. Styles says he'll call the match down the middle, but if Styles touches him then Shane will retaliate. Styles asks if that's a threat as Kevin Owens interrupts. Owens thinks the Pele Kick wasn't an accident and wants to shake Shane's hand. Shane says it wouldn't be right, maybe he shook shake Styles' hand instead. Owens and Styles trash talk and start brawling. Styles almost punches Shane, then dodges a super kick from Owens, which hits Shane. Owens escapes the ring angry as Styles laughs to end the segment.

- The New Day vs. The Usos: The match closes out with both teams brawling. Kofi sends Jey into the barricade. Both teams trade offense until The Usos hit a double Uso Kick on Kofi to score the pinfall.
Winners: The Usos, by pinfall.

- We get another Breezango Fashion Peaks video. Breezango warn the tag team division that something dark is coming.

- Jinder Mahal vs. John Cena: The match closes out with The Singh Brothers trying to help Mahal, but get busted by the referee and ejected to the back. Cena traps Mahal in the STF submission, but Mahal reaches the ropes. Mahal counters the AA, hits a knee on Cena and gets a near fall. Cena blocks the Cobra Clutch Slam and hits the AA for a near fall. Cena takes Mahal to the top rope, hits a Super AA and goes for the cover. Baron Corbin hits the ring and attacks Cena, getting Mahal DQ'ed.
Winner: John Cena, by DQ.



- After the match, Corbin hits Cena with his Money In The Bank briefcase and talks trash. Corbin leaves, comes back, looks at Mahal still knocked out and cashes in his Money In The Bank briefcase.


- "WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match": Jinder Mahal (c) vs. Baron Corbin: As soon as the bell rings, Corbin knocks Cena off the apron. Mahal takes advantage of the distraction, rolls up Corbin and scores the pinfall, to retain his title.
Winner: Jinder Mahal, by pinfall, to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

- After the match, Corbin talks trash and throws a tantrum as Cena laughs at him and Mahal celebrates to end the show.
